Below are a few of my early projects that I worked on during my time at Aperta

Insurance

I lead the delivery of a software solution to an insurance company that streamlined the payment system workflow and payments reconciliation, improved their software functionality, enhanced the payment options for the insurance company and enhanced the core software solutions to integrate to a third-party application and increase the sales options for the software. The enhancement increased the speed payments were processed and accepted by the insurance company, increasing their daily revenue. The additional third-party software integration was developed with flexibility to allow for integration with other customers solutions and it opened opportunities for the software tobe sold and used in a market that previously was not explored. The features are still used to this day. This lead quickly to 4 new customers in the following year because of the enhanced productivity of the software and increased license revenue for Aperta.

Venezuela Banking

I lead the upgrade for a bank in Venezuela from old technology and operating systems to new technology and operating systems and upgraded 200 branches with new software and hardware technologies. I lead the team and prepared for a largescale deployment that spanned a single weekend and integrated with multiple banking systems. The project was a great success, allowing all systems to upgrade to the new software with the new features that had been requested to enhance functionality and cater for changes requested in security and auditing. The security integration with the active directory and SQL systems were used as a basis for all future installations.

The difficulties encountered were due to the widescale implementation and lack of knowledge of the local language however, good preparation covered this and allowed for a smooth deploy.

Non-profit

I launched the software into a new market, serving non-profit organization who would process their donations, accept requests for assistance or prayers and who would place orders via a variety of solutions. The product was enhanced with new functionality that was designed by multiple iterative discussions with the customer on what they needed and we then provided solutions and demonstrations to the customer as we enhanced the software. The limitations of our knowledge of the new field was overcome by keeping the customer involved as much as possible, allowing us to add new modules and components to the system that could be used to provide a solution. The enhancements reduced their daily workflow from 60 people to 3 and was expanded to cover 2 other companies with similar requirements. Delivering the product in a satisfactory timeline required the enhancements to be prioritized and delivered in phases. The software expanded the market in the USA and has been used in multiple implementations throughout the world.

Fraud Prevention

I was the delivery manager for software that would provide fraud prevention to a Japanese international bank based in New York. The project required technological enhancements to the software to interface our software into the banks framework, integrating the security of their system into our own software with no impact to the banks existing systems. The challenges faced included solving security challenges integrating the “Single Sign On” from the bank’s web system into our own, adding the banks specific requirements for new features and fully testing them internationally with multiple interfaces to other systems.

Lockbox

I was the software delivery manager working closely with a lockbox solutions provider in California, providing payment processing solutions to customers, using our software. I provided continual support enhancements to the lockbox provider as each new customer they acquired would regularly have non-standard requirements. Difficulties that were faced often were down to lack of understand for the new customer requirements, so I lead our team to provide enhancements to our application to allow the lockbox provider to be able to customize and configure the software to their own needs, without requiring any additional support from the company. These enhancements reduced the support time being spent on the customer significantly and allowed the lockbox provider the ability to obtain new customers at a significantly increased rate and reduced cost to them.

Foreign Transit Banking

I was added as the project manager to the delivery of software for one of the USA major banks for foreign transit items (items being paid in the USA that must be returned to their originating country). The project had encountered difficulties and needed assistance to recover. My job was to fully identify the issues and provide solutions that would ease the transition from the old software to our new platform. The difficulties encountered included lack of cooperation from the staff at the site that was closing to lack of documentation on the current system. I lead a team to analyze the existing system to fully understand how it worked today and identify the missing components that needed to be developed for the new platform. I coordinated the development of these enhancements, implemented a testing and demonstration platform for the bank to fully ensure that all aspects were met and tested before installation. The success of the testing lead to a smooth installation at the bank and has reduced the time taken to process international payments and exchange the currencies successfully with other countries. The efficiency saved the bank on multiple days of delays in payments to a single day response on most countries.
